The Maguire Network Latest Net-Poll Results Summary

Our Net-Poll question in the last issue of The Maguire Network asked you to share your agreement or disagreement with the idea that wealthier universities ought to financially assist selected less-wealthy institutions.

Thirty-five percent (35%) of respondents said they agree while 65% disagree. Although the majority of Net-Poll respondents indicate they oppose this idea, the notion that colleges and universities, and perhaps the federal government, should explore new ways to make higher education more affordable to low and middle income families is receiving a lot of attention from senior administrators, lawmakers, and the public at large of late.

We asked this question, in part, to get your thoughts on an idea advanced by Maguire Associates Chairman and founder, Jack Maguire, and Senior Consultant Larry Butler, that well-endowed colleges and universities should help educate a broader array of students by sharing some of their financial resources with less fortunate schools.

Read more of the discussion about institutional endowments and misdirected animosity towards "merit aid" in their recent article, published in The Chronicle of Higher Education, and in the Milk Trout section of this issue of The Maguire Network.
